A filter moulding begins with a mould tool design. This tool design takes account of both the mesh section of the filter, and the plastic that holds the mesh in place, encapsulating it. Once the mould tool is designed and cut from a block of steel, moulding of the filter can begin.<\/p>\n<p>A mesh is typically placed (manually or robotically) onto the core of the tool (the bit that sticks out). The tool is then clamped together, and molten plastic is injected into the tool. One of these is the cost-effective nature of manufacturing high volumes. Despite the initial costs of tooling, the cost per part is low with injection moulding, particularly if there are high levels of automation and large volumes involved.<\/p>\n<p>The repeatability of injection moulded filters is another advantage of the technique; a single steel mould tool can make hundreds of thousands to millions of identical mouldings.
